Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi is located in the famous Piazza Navona of Rome and dates back to 1651. Designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini for Pope Innocent X, the fountain faces to the family place of the Pope- the Palazzo Pamphii and also to the Sant'Agnese in Agone church.
The fountain stands on a base of travertine rocks and four river gods stand above it representing the four rivers of four continents- Nile of Africa, Danube of Europe, Ganges of Asia and Rio de la Plata representing the Americas.
